Glufosinate Ammonium

Glufosinate Ammonium 20% SL – non-selective contact herbicide for annual broadleaf and grass weeds in orchards. Safer paraquat alternative.

1000 ml package
  • Glufosinate Ammonium Behavaran
  • Glufosinate ammonium is a non-selective contact herbicide used as a safer alternative to paraquat in agriculture. Known commercially as “Basta,” it primarily controls annual and non-perennial weeds with limited effect on perennials.

Mode of Action

  • Glufosinate ammonium inhibits glutamine synthetase enzyme, crucial for nitrogen metabolism. This causes ammonia accumulation in plant cells, disrupting photosynthesis, leading to chlorosis (yellowing), wilting, and weed death within 1-2 weeks.

Uses

  • Non-selective contact herbicide affecting only sprayed plant parts. Effective against annual broadleaf and grass weeds in orchards and fields. Apply when weeds are actively growing for optimal absorption. Full leaf coverage essential due to limited systemic movement. No PHI specified in text.

  • Wear protective clothing, gloves, goggles, mask during application to avoid skin/eye/respiratory exposure.
  • Apply only to actively growing weeds; avoid drought/cold stress conditions.
  • Do not use in greenhouses or on trees/seedlings under 1 year old.
  • Highly toxic to fish and bees; prevent water contamination.
  • No grazing on treated areas until weeds are dead.
  • Store in cool, dry place away from food and children.
  • Short soil persistence (7-10 days); minimal long-term accumulation.
  • Rapid breakdown reduces environmental impact vs. paraquat.
  • Avoid drift to water bodies; highly toxic to aquatic life.
  • Contact action limits root/systemic soil activity.
  • Follow PHI per local regulations; dispose containers properly.
