  • Cyazofamid is a specialized fungicide from the cyanoimidazole family with both protective and curative effects, used to control diseases caused by oomycete fungi, particularly downy mildew (internal mildew) in agricultural and horticultural crops. It is formulated as a 20% suspension concentrate (SC) and is highly regarded in agriculture due to its unique mechanism of action and high efficacy.

Mechanism of Action

  • Cyazofamid disrupts the mitochondrial electron transport chain at the bc1 complex, inhibiting cellular respiration in pathogenic fungi (especially Phytophthora species).
This disruption stops mycelial growth, prevents spore germination, and blocks zoospore formation. The fungicidal effect is simultaneously contact, translaminar, and partially systemic, protecting newly emerged leaves after spraying.

Applications

Cyazofamid is especially effective for controlling:

  • Downy mildew of greenhouse cucumber (Pseudoperonospora cubensis)

  • Grape downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola)

  • Late blight of potato and tomato (Phytophthora infestans)

  • Other diseases caused by oomycete fungi

It is also effective against soil-borne fungal diseases and root rot, suitable for field crops, horticultural crops, vegetables, fruits, and ornamental plants both outdoors and in greenhouses.

Additional Notes:

  • Short pre-harvest interval (PHI), suitable for spraying close to harvest.
  • Best applied before infection or at the first signs of disease for maximum protection.
  • Do not exceed three applications per growing season to prevent resistance.

Key Features

  • Protective, contact, and partially systemic activity
  • Effective against oomycete fungi including Phytophthora, Pythium, and Plasmopara
  • Highly rainfast
  • Protects new leaves and prevents disease spread even after infection
  • Very low or no known resistance due to unique mode of action
  • Minimal environmental toxicity; safe for honeybees
  • Short pre-harvest interval (usually 3 days for cucurbits)

  • Always wear gloves, mask, and protective clothing.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • Do not spray in strong wind to prevent unwanted drift.
  • Residue on crops must comply with product instructions and local regulations.
  • Toxic to aquatic organisms; prevent entry into water sources
  • Limit use during flowering to avoid harming bees
  • Relatively immobile in soil and rapidly degraded
  • Surface stability on plants minimizes risk of long-range environmental contamination, but proper waste management is essential
